For Gundam Wing Fans: 8000+ pics and an anime fan story

by Melody on January 4, 2014 at 7:47 p.m.

In November we posted our 8000th picture in the galleries on our Gundam Wing site. I've included a cropped version of it below, which is half the size of the real thing. You can click on it to see the larger picture:

Hopefully I'll be able to continue to post pictures, which has become more difficult since my cataracts have gotten bad but I plan to correct that with surgery ASAP, now that the holidays are over.

The Shooting Stars Collection: A Gundam Wing Image Archive has been online since June 2001, but something happened before we created the site and it's time to tell the story so here it is:

The Story

On our main page we have a message:

YOU ARE NOT A FREAK!

"If you met my husband, daughter and myself at the Ridgedale Audio King in Minnetonka, MN on Sunday 17 November 2000, YOU know who you are. Please contact us!"

On that date, we were looking for a new television. For the first time I saw the new flat wide-screen TVs and my first thought was of Gundam Wing Endless Waltz, which had aired recently. So I said to John: "Wouldn't Endless Waltz be something on that TV? Think of Wing Zero opening and the feathers floating down." A man came up to us and said, "Did I hear you say 'Endless Waltz' and 'Wing Zero'?" When we said he had he put his hand to his heart and started exclaiming, "I'm not a freak! I'm not a freak!" He was genuinely relieved to find other adults who watched anime--he thought he was the only one. (He must not have noticed that Gundam Wing not only ran in the afternoon on Cartoon Network but also on the Midnight Run, a time set for teens and adults. the Midnight Run was later renamed Adult Swim) I've never forgotten the man who is not a freak and we've left the message for him on our main page in case he ever happened across our site, but sorry to say, he hasn't.

Recently we purchased our first flat screen TV and had the pleasure of watching Endless Waltz on it while we wrapped Christmas presents (after all, the story does take place on Christmas) and it was everything I'd ever thought it would be. The high quality animation was even more amazing and it was such a treat to see the movie this way. So, since this wish was finally fulfilled, I thought it was time to tell the story.
