What Happened

A Report by Chibi Trowa Barton an’ helped by GWBoyzAngel (‘cause she’s so nice)

It happind on a rainy day right for lunch; one of those dark and dull days of endless rain, like the one yesterday and the day before and the day before that one. The sky was black and the sandbox was as soggy as applesauce. Mrs. Meyers’ class was really rowdy, that’s what happens when you’re not aloud out for lunchs and reseses. Duo raised his hand, I member cause Duo hardly never raises his hand when he wants to say sumthing.

“Can we go out side t’day? Please?”

“It’s raining, Duo.” He prolly asked that evry day and knew that she meend NO.

“But the playground looks so lonely an’ I bet no one’s been on the swings for ages.”

“Duo, No!”

“Aw, man.”

That was all they said and we were gonna have to have lunch inside gain. I didn’t like it neethur because you’re not loud to do back-flips inside, but it’s school rules. No body goes out on rainy days; we even have to take the long way to the library to stay under the roof. Mrs. Meyers clapped her hands 1-2-3 all-eyes-on-me and made us clean up and get our lunch boxes from the clost where we keep our coats and backpacks on hooks during class. Heero was line leader so he got to pick who got to go in the line in what order. He all ways makes shur Relena is last because that’s the farthist from him. Wufei was near the end too because Heero was mad at him for some reason, I forget.

But the reel portent stuff didn’t come till after we got back to the class room for free-time before the end-lunch bell rang. Quatre and I were doing a puzzle. Mrs. Meyers says it’s a nice quiet tivity, good for rainy days, nice and simple; but I think sum one mixt up all the peaces because Quatre was holding a green blob the color of brocli and the box showed a dino more like a lima been. We never got to see if it was tru that the puzzles were mixt because that’s when Relena sided to let everyone know that she was not happy. Really, really not happy.

She was leaning over the table where Duo and Heero were. Relena was making a mad face, lips all scrunched up like she had been sucking on sour candies, the ones that have the powdery stuff on the outside but it’s sweeter inside. I like the blue ones best. Her hands were on her hips and she stomped her foot a cupple times while talking.

“Heero you haf’ta help me find it!”

“I don’t wanna.”

“Go way, Relena,” Duo ordered her, just like he would if we were at home, the same way Melody tells him not to all the time.

“Oh hush, Duo. I wasn’t talkin’ to you. Heero you haf ta help me find it, you just haf ta.”

“Why don’t you ask Hilde to help you?” As Milliardo would say that was very diplamtick of Heero, but he didn’t say it in the nice way Milliardo would have.

“But.” Relena sniffed. She looked like she was about to cry for real. Quatre was there before she could though, talking in a soft voice and making her stop sniffing. He found out fast what was wrong; he’s very good at that.

“Trowa n’ I will help you find it,” Quatre vualtanteered us both, he’s good at that too.

He splained to me what Relena was looking for, a key ring with a pink crown hanging from it, because I wasn’t listening when he was talking to her. I wanted to finish the puzzle but it looked hopeless so I noded my head and Relena led us to the coat closet.

“I looked all over for it.” Relena sniffed again for emfazis.

It was clear that she had looked through the hole room, things were in piles that should a been lined up on shelfs and all the jakits were lying on top the cubby-cabnit; that’s where we put our homework and get papers to take home to our parents.

I asked, “Where was your lunch box for lunch?”

“Here,” Relena found her box and put it right where she had it, at the edge of the top shelf. It was pink, like the Barbie iel at the store, with pictures of princesses on the front, their dresses frilly and shiny with glitter.

“Did it fall behind the shelf?” Quatre asked.

Relena answered, “I reached my hand back as far as I could an’ didn’t feel it.”

Nobody in our class could reach all the way to the middle to see if for shur it had really fallen, but if it had it would be near the edge. I didn’t believe it had fallen off, it was very unlikely though not completely impozable, so I didn’t say anything bout that yet.

“Let’s put everything back, maybe you just mist it.”

“Yeah,” Quatre agreed with me, “It is kinda small.”

We put all the stuff back where it was, all most, nobody could remember the order all the jackits were in. The key ring was still missing even though we reached our hands behind everything that we couldn’t move, some stuff twice.

“This can’t be,” Relena sobbed, “It just can’t. It’s so very ‘portent to me. I can’t have lost it.”

Quatre put his arm round her shoulder, “’S‘kay, Relena, we’ll find it. It didn’t grow legs and walk away.”

That’s what Melody says when never we lose or miss place something at home, and it happens a lot. Sometimes when we do find what went missing, I think that is what happened; it’s much easier to splain any way. Quatre always laughs when he pictures things growing legs.

“Where will we look now? Do you think sum’un taked it?”

“I don’t know.” Quatre answered Relena.

She didn’t suspect me to answer so I didn’t. I looked round the room and thought, wondering where it could be.

The only reason Relena thinks it is so portent is because Heero fixed it for her once, and he only did that because Duo teased him saying he couldn’t. When Heero fixes a thing, espeshully something of Relena’s, it stays fixed, that way she won’t bug him again. If it had broken off, which didn’t happen, the silver ring would be on her lunch box, but it wasn’t. Or maybe the zipper part could a broke, that’s happened to me, it makes it vary hard to open things. I looked closely, only some paint chunks were missing and after a while all zippers do that.

“Relena, was it missing before or after we went to eat?” I asked.

“I don’t know. Hilde an’ me shared some of hers an’ Dorothy gave me her tater-tots so I didn’t even open mine.”

“Do you think it might be in the cafeteria?” Quatre asked in a helpful voice.

“No. Someone took my princess ring they had to of ‘cause we would a found it! How could someone be so mean?” She sounded like she was going to panick.

“Who’d want that girly thing anyway?” Wufei was leaning in the door way, arms folded, “Just forget that ugly thing.”

“I don’t wanna, go way!”

“That’s not nice, Wufei.” If Quatre hadn’t said something I think Relena would have chased him out, that’s how upset she was. It still looked like she might but Hilde came in and he left.

“Hey Quatre, Trowa, were you doin’ the dinosaur puzzle?” Hilde held out a puzzle piece. “I think this piece belongs to it. So what are you all doin’ in here?”

“We were lookin’ for Relena’s lost key ring but we couldn’t find it,” Quatre splained.

“That’s ‘cause it’s not lost,” Hilde grined and ran over to her jackit, it was purple, she says it’s like the color of Duo’s eyes (Duo says she’s getting more like Relena the longer we know her) and she has a matching umbrella. “It got snagged on my jacket so I took it off the box then tried to get it un-stuck. I put it here and forgot. Sorry Relena.”

“That ‘skay.”

Relena hugged her, but as Hilde pulled her hand out of the pocket she frowned, then searched the other one. “Wait I remember I moved it.” Hilde dug her hand into the pockits on her pants. Relena was still hugging her.

“I had it here. I did!” Hilde pulled away and pointed to a spot where the thread was sticking out in a loop. “And I got it off and stuck it in my pocket but now it’s gone.”

“It’s hopeless; we’ll never find it now.”

Heero stuck his head through the door, “Lunch is almost over, time to clean up.”

As line leader it was part of his job to make shur every one knew that, usually there isn’t any one to tell though.

We went, the four of us, and cleaned up the puzzles, the bell rang, lunch ended. Mrs. Meyers passed out work sheets and sent Heero to get some papers, another part of his job as line leader for the week. After that he gave something to Relena. She jumped out of her seat nocking it over with a loud thud and hugged him. Heero really, really hates that. The Teacher got her back in her seat, almost, but Heero was sent to the Prinsapal’s office for thretining Relena.

“I should go with him too.”

“That’s not necessary Relena. The Principal’s office isn’t some where you want to go.”

Duo laughed at that, he gets sent there a lot.

“But I want to be with my pumpkin.”

“No!” Mrs. Meyers rubbed her fourhead. It took awhile before everything was in order again.

We were aloud to talk quietly, and Mrs. Meyers reminded us many times about the quietly part, while we worked. I found out that when Heero went to get the papers for the teacher he also wanted something from his coat pocket and that’s where he found Relena’s key ring. Hilde then remembered she put it on the corner of the shelf for a short time while trying to hang up her jackit because after lunch Heero’s coat was where hers had been. So it must have fallen into his pocket and that’s what happened, unless things really do grow legs.
