Quatre made his way back to the Nursery that he shared with the rest of the young boy chibis in the house. In his arms he carried his forgotten toys. When he entered the room Trowa was busy playing with his gundam model, Wufei and Heero were practicing their karate and Relena was busy adoring Heero from the foot of Duo's bed. Since Duo was no where to been seen Quatre turned to Trowa and asked where he was. Trowa looked up and in his calm sounding voice said, "That loud noise from the kitchen was him. He was trying to steal some of the left over Christmas cookies and bring them up here."

"Oh," Quatre replied. He put his toys back in his toy box and, going to sit down by Trowa with his gundam toy; he pulled his little forehead into a frown and asked with puzzlement in his voice, “What could you drop that begins with a ‘ba’ sound?"

Wu-fie stopped practicing to turn and look at him with a frown on his face. “Why do you want to know that for?”

Quatre looked up at him and said, “I just wanted to know what it could be." He said this with a defensive tone in his voice as Wu-fie looked at him with a look of slight disgust on his face.

The sound of John telling Duo to go to his room and stay there until he told him that he could come out preceded the sound of thumping feet and a quick slam as Duo got himself into the Nursery.

Heero looked up and with a smirk said, "I guess you won't be getting any dessert tonight."

Duo gave him a dirty glare and with a huff threw himself on his bed.

Relena quickly got up and, putting her hands on her hips, said, “Serves you right for trying to steal something. You know Melody said that's a bad thing to do.” Relena shook her finger at him.

Now, Duo could put up with her bossiness, but that finger he would NOT put up with! “Aw, get out of here, you have no right to be in this room unless we all want you here and I don't!" Duo yelled at her.

Relena stuck her thumb in her mouth and, with tears welling up in her big blue eyes, went to tell Melody that Duo had been mean to her.

Duo looked after her with annoyance on his face and muttered under his breath. “Big tattletale."

Quatre, eager to clear the angry mood in the Nursery, spoke up and asked Duo if he knew what could be dropped that began with a ‘ba’ sound. Duo turned to him and with a smile coming over his face said, "The only thing I know of that can be dropped that begins with a ’ba’ sound is a bomb!"

After Duo made that little announcement Quatre's face became a little pale but since the other chibi boys knew he didn't really like violence none of them made an issue of it. They all went about their business of having fun but if Chibi Quatre was a little quieter than usual in his playing none of them noticed it. As the day went on Quatre tried his best to think of something else that could be dropped that began with a ‘ba’ sound. But since nothing came to mind the poor little chibi became even more sure that tonight all of them were going to die!

At dinner that night Melody noticed that Quatre wasn't eating, and with a worried look on her face, reached her hand over to touch his forehead. "Are you feeling sick, Quatre?"

Quatre quickly shook his head. He didn't want his beloved Webmommie to know that today was her last day alive. She might become sad and he wanted her to be happy no matter what! So Chibi Quatre carried his burden with him through dinner and when bedtime came Melody watched them say their prayers and then tucked them into bed he gave her an extra big hug and kiss.

After all the other chibis were deeply asleep Quatre climbed out of his bed to go and stay by Melody in her room. The clock by his bed read 11:55 so he was sure Melody would be asleep. He quickly ran down the hall in his little bunny jammies and when he got to Melody and John's room he quietly turned the knob on the door. But when he peeked his head into the room he was shocked to see that Melody and John were not in their room! Quatre was just about to wake the other chibis up to help him find their missing webparents when he heard Melody's voice coming from the living room downstairs. He quickly ran down the stairs to see what was going on. As he rounded the corner into the room he saw Melody and John cuddling on the couch with the TV on. As he crept closer to them he heard the man on the TV announce that the ball was going to drop in just five minutes. Chibi Quatre's little mouth fell open in a little round circle and with his voice raised in shock he said, "You mean it was a ball that was going to be dropped, not a bomb!"

Melody and John both jumped off the couch at the sound of Quatre's voice. John and Melody both exchanged a look of puzzlement over the tears that had begun to steam down the relieved chibi's face and his very odd words. Melody reached down and picked Quatre up in her arms and while she held him on the couch and rubbed his back the whole story came out. While she and John might later laugh over the incident, at that moment there was nothing but loving understanding on both of their faces. After telling Quatre that if anything was bothering him, he should come to them so they could help, Melody shifted him around in her lap and with a smile said, "Well, since you're up I think you should watch the New Year come in with us."

Quatre nodded happily and with his head resting on Melody's shoulder he turned his eyes to the TV where they were on the last two minutes before the New Year. But those were two minutes to many for the tired little chibi and when Melody looked down at him at midnight he was fast asleep.

With a sweet motherly smile she whispered, “Happy New Year, Chibi Quatre.”
