To Be or Not to Be…Adopted?
The Players
Max (the father)
Act I: The Unexpected Visitors
Ruby(the mother)
Ri-chan(me! the oldest sister)
Don, Tessa, (chibis)
Nanashi, (adopted chibi)
A tall woman with long red hair and green eyes knocks on the door of Melody's house. Melody opens the door.
Melody: Hi. May I help you?
The woman: My name's Ruby and I'm here to see about adopting one of the children here.
Melody: Please come in.
Ruby enters the house. Her teenage daughter Ri-chan follows close behind. (Ri-chan looks nothing like her mom. She looks more like Relena, except she has *gasp* a tail!). Chibi Relena smiles at Ri-chan and goes back to her coloring in her book, completely ignoring Heero, which is something that doesn't happen very often.
Ruby thinks of adopting Relena, then sees Chibi Quatre. Ruby is introduced to all the chibis.
Ruby: They're all so cute.... maybe I'll come back later.
Ri-chan: Or you can send dad back. Maybe he can bring Nanashi or Don.
Melody: *very much taken aback* Um. I don't know what to say.
Ruby and her daughter leave. Melody sighs and heads for the telephone.
Chibi Duo: *slouches in his chair at the table* I don't wanna get 'dopted.
Heero: Maybe I'll get adopted.
Relena: I hope not! I don't want you to go.
Heero: *hopeful* Maybe they'll 'dopt Relena.
Relena: *sad* Would ya miss me?
The other chibis are quiet. Suddenly there is a knock on the door. They all look at each other apprehensively, waiting to see who is willing to answer the door. Trowa rises to the occasion.
Trowa: *opens door, says to guests* Hi-are you here 'bout 'doptin' us?
Max: *smiles pleasantly* Yes we are.
Nanashi, a short chibi with a long fool's gold colored braid and curly bangs, stares quietly at all of the chibis as they enter the living room. Duo stares at Max's long braid.
Duo: You got long hair too!
Max: Yeah... but I'm thinkin' about cutting it. Nanashi needs a haircut too.
Nanashi:.........!!!!!! *wide eyes*
Max: *chuckles* Just kidding.
Melody: Your little boy must be shy. What's his name?
Max: Yeah...we don't know his name name...so we call him Nanashi. He's mute. Poor kid was living in a horrible orphanage. I pulled him out and had the place shut down. I really came here to tell you that we've decided not to adopt. But, I would like permission to have your chibis over some day and maybe we can come over to visit.
Melody: You are certainly welcome to come to visit. We don't understand why you were sent here. We love each and every one of our chibis and we are not interested in adopting them out.
Max: ....My wife had a feeling you didn't wanna adopt them out. So we came back to let you know we wouldn't try to take them.
All of the chibis cheer and hug Melody's legs, except for Relena, who is hugging Heero with all her might. Nanashi smiles because he is happy for them.
Relena is about to knock on the slightly open Nursery door but she decides to listen in on the conversation the boys are having first.
Quatre: Those kids were nice. I hope they’ll come back to play sometime.
Trowa: Me too, but it sure was a good to hear when Melody told the people that they don’t want to ‘dopt us out.
Quatre: Yeah, but Melody ‘n John haven’t ‘dopted us yet. They will sometime, don’t you think?
Relena chose this opportunity to jump into the conversation and to reassure Quatre.
Relena: Of course they’ll ‘dopt us! They love us an’ wanna keep us forever ‘n ever!
Duo has a wicked sparkle in his big blue eyes.
Duo: I think so too. An’ then Heero will be off the hook with Relena!”
Wufei: You’re right, he will.
Relena: *demands indignantly* Just what do you mean by THAT?”
Duo: “Well, I mean if Melody ‘n John ‘dopt us that you an’ Heero will be brother an’ sister an’ brothers an’ sisters can’t get married to each other so Heero will be off the hook!”
Relena: *wobbling chin* Trowa, is that true?
Trowa: I dunno. You’d have to ask Melody.
Duo: ‘Course it’s true! I saw it on “The ‘Doption Option” on the Discov’ry Channel! So it’s gotta be true!
Relena: *panics, runs to find their webmommie* WAH!!!
Heero: *happy monotone, almost smiles* Thanks, guys. That’ll keep her outta our hair for awhile. *high fives all around*
